I will play it after midterm lol |
Do you know the
three most addictive games in the world? They are ‘Football manager’, ‘Sid
Meier’s Civilization’, ‘Heroes of might magic’. Unfortunately, I played two of
the three during middle school. I played ‘Sid Meier’s Civilization’ and
‘Football manager’, and I could say that ‘Football manager’ is the game you
should never play.
No
one can understand why ‘Football manager’ is addictive until they play it. That
is largely because it seems like I am just watching the monitor aimlessly where
3D characters are moving without any control from me and I am just pressing
space bar continuously for hours with occasional clicks. They think it is not
FUN and cannot believe it has a nickname; a divorce maker! However, I can say
without a doubt that downloading ‘Football manager’ is the worst decision in my
life.

The
most terrifying aspect of ‘Football Manager’ is that you will never get bored.
There are too many things to care as you work as a manager controlling every part
of your team. There are interviews between every game, and you have to change
tactics and players according to your opponent’s lineup. For example, I place
tall forwards when I realize opponent's defenders are relatively short. Tall
players can pulverize small defenders using their height and stamina. However,
the most enjoyable but the most horrible part of ‘Football manager’ is the
transfer market. As a manager, you have to buy some players to reinforce your
squad or to begin making your squad younger. It is a burdensome job which needs
constant comparison, so I even woke in the middle of night and contemplated
about whom I should buy.
Nevertheless,
I eventually got so used to my team and the game felt so obvious. So, I
simply moved from one team to another and started a new career which provided
me with brand new excitements. Gradually, I got addicted to the game more and
more.
I
even took my laptop at school and played it in the school not listening to
lectures. Of course I got legged behind my classes and at the mid-term test I got a report card with an F in almost every subject except Math, Korean
and Ethics. But, I didn’t care since I was so busy to care about a tiny-tiny thing like exam
results. I was more focused on whom I should buy to reinfoce my team. My parents and
friends tried to stop me but no one made the difference.
But,
one day, I accidently pressed some keys and got into a page I had never seen.
It showed a graph of the sum of time I played ‘Football manager’ per day. And
the line was flying high. Above the graph, there was a comment from 'Football manager'. ‘Don’t forget to
eat and sleep’ It felt like I got my head hit with a
frying pan. I suddenly realized that I was severely addicted to this game and I
had to stop playing the game right away. I quit the very next day but I
suffered from withdrawal symptoms. I couldn’t concentrate on anything and the
game images just floated in front of my eyes. So, just after one month, I
surrendered to the temptation to play it. I repeated the processes of playing
and quitting for about a year and during that year my scores steadily got
better.
The most recent
quittance happened 4 months ago, but I still have temptations to play it all
the time. It is really sad but I believe I could never literally quit. So, I
suggest, no I beg not to play ‘Football manager’! You will screw up your GPA.
Thank you.
